Cooloola Coastcare and the Gympie Regional STEM Hub have joined forces again to celebrate National Science Week with the FREE STEAMzone Twilight Science Market, being held on 23 August from 4pm to 7pm in the parklands beside the Rainbow Beach Community Hall.
With 15 scientists to meet in the ‘Scientist Encounters’ and lots of fun hands-on Science, Technology, Engineering, sci-Arts and Maths (STEAM) activities, there will be something for all ages.
The activities and displays include dinosaurs, fossils, BIG trees, puppet shows, story readings, making paper from weeds, glow in the dark plants and creatures, Early childhood sensory play, cracking your own geode crystal rocks, fantastic fizz and so much more.
Coastcare president, Dr Lindy Orwin, said the community support for the event after last year compelled her group to run the event again this year. The ever popular sea turtle model and nest diorama will be there along with our very own Turtle Pam to meet for photos.

Cooloola BioBlitz Joins the Fun
In an exciting crossover, this year’s STEAMzone at Rainbow Beach is being held on the same weekend as the 2025 Cooloola BioBlitz - a citizen science event where the community joins experts to document local biodiversity.
The BioBlitz, taking place 22-24 August, invites people of all ages to join field surveys and contribute to real scientific research. It’s a perfect follow-on from STEAMzone, blending science, tech, and environmental awareness in the great outdoors.
Budding biologists can learn how to identify plants, insects, and fungi, and how this data helps protect our unique local ecosystems.
Head to www.cooloolacoastcare.org.au/projects/bioblitz for full details and to book your tickets.
